# Chat with your athletes

> Talk directly to the people you train, without leaving your dashboard and without mixing it into your personal WhatsApp.

**Chat** is the conversation between you and your athletes inside Kampp. You write from
the dashboard, the athlete replies in the app — and everything stays in one place,
alongside their workout, their diet and their history.

## Why use Kampp chat

* **It doesn't mix with your personal life.** Your WhatsApp stays yours.
* **Every conversation has context.** You're one click away from that athlete's profile,
  workout and progress.
* **Nothing gets lost.** The history lives in your account, not on a phone.

## Where to find it

In the side menu, under **Chat**. When someone messages you, a **red badge with the
number of unread messages** shows up next to the menu item (past 99 it shows `99+`).

You can also open the conversation straight from the athlete's profile: open the athlete
and click **Message**.

## How the screen is laid out

* **Left column — Conversations.** The list of everyone who has talked to you, with a
  preview of the last message and the time.
* **Right column — the open conversation.** The messages, the compose box and, at the
  top, the athlete's name with the **View profile** button.

On mobile you see one screen at a time, with a **Back to conversations** arrow at the top.

## Getting notified about new messages

When you have Kampp open in another tab, Kampp gets your attention: a short beep plays, a
browser notification appears and a counter shows up in the tab title (`(3) Kampp`).

To turn that on or off, go to **Settings → Notifications** and use the **New message**
switch.

<Note>
  Chat is a module enabled per account. If you don't see the **Chat** item in the menu —
  or you opened the screen and read **"Chat is not active"** — contact Kampp support to
  have it enabled.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Do you have team members using your dashboard? On top of the module, the member also
  needs permission to message athletes. See [Permissions](/en/permissions).
</Tip>
